3 August 2017! $20,000.00 DONATION from American Legion Post 29 – 3rd Annual Veterans Memorial 5K and 1K!

Just announced!  A $20,000.00 donation was presented to MG Joe Jarrard for the Georgia National Guard Foundation at last week’s dinner at American Legion Post 29 in Marietta, GA.  Post Commander Walter Cusick, Jr. and Tom Bell, Vice Commander and Race Chairman, extended invitations to the Foundation’s Board, our military leadership, the designated charities and some of the awesome sponsors that supported the event!  A wonderful dinner was prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed by all!  In addition to MG Jarrard, Mrs. Susan Jarrard, CW2 Amanda Justus, CSM Jason York and his wife, Heather, LTC Jason Ellington and Harriet Morgan attended on behalf of the Foundation.

The Race Committee and members of Post 29 continue to do an amazing job of organizing the annual Veterans Memorial 5K and plans are already underway for 26 May 2018 so SAVE THE DATE!

We are honored to be a charity partner for this incredible organization and thank everyone involved for the interest and ongoing support to the Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation!

A recap of the 3rd Annual Veterans Memorial 5K Run, 1K Run/Walk and Tot Trot held on Saturday, 27 May 2017 with a start/finish at Marietta Square follows!  This family-friendly event was well organized with generous sponsors,supporters, volunteers, music, free parking and more!   Members from the Georgia National Guard Recruiting team participated in the run and were also on site with a gaming trailer!

Proceeds are designated for the Commander’s Fund of the American Legion, the Shepherd’sMen and the GA National Guard Foundation! Military leadership from the GA National Guard, including MG Joe Jarrard, BG Tom Carden, COL Randall Simmons, CSM Jason York, CW2 Amanda Justus and many others led the way! A team from the Shepherd’s Men participated in the 5K race after laying a wreath at the Marietta National Cemetery.

A Military Appreciation Celebration featuring the Georgia Symphony Orchestra followed the race at 10:30 am in the Marietta Square! 40 piece orchestra provided an outstanding performance with members of the GSO Youth Orchestra and the Marietta High School Band!
