Mr. Golden has voluntarily served on the Board of Directors of the Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation, Inc. since 2006. As a Partner with Troutman Sanders LLP, his area of practice includes Tax Exempt Organizations. He has been instrumental in providing advice, experience and support to the Foundation, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation. His generosity to help other support organizations of the Georgia National Guard included determining eligibility and making or renewing applications to the Internal Revenue Service for approval of tax exemption non-profit status for the Peach State Star Base Foundation, Inc. and the Freedom Calls Memorial Foundation, Inc. Each of these applications were successful and performed on a pro bono basis.

David has assisted the Foundation with agreements to secure donations from external resources. In addition to his time and efforts, he has personally contributed donations of support during the annual Georgia Gives Day for non-profits and through other means.

BG Tom Carden, Foundation President, and the military leadership of the Georgia National Guard fully supported the nomination of David F. Golden to receive the James Edward Oglethorpe Award for 2017 for outstanding and exceptional service to the Georgia National Guard.
